We come from a long line of great entrepreneurs to be proud of. Madam C. J. Walker, Booker T. Washington, John H. Johnson, Reginald F. Lewis, Mabel Little, and many more. But, this is not a history book, this is an advice book.
In the following chapters, this book covers:
  • How to create luck
  • Foster creativity
  • Identify who real friends are in business
  • Get rid of self-doubt
  • Deal with haters
  • Set goals
  • Create good habits
  • Become more patient.
  • And much more.
I’m going to give you the advice I wish someone would have given me when I first started out. When I learned each of these skills I became a better entrepreneur, but most of all a better person.
  • My man,

My wife and I purchased your book “Don’t Dumb Down Your Greatness” as soon as we heard about it. We just got it in the mail the other day and I’d already gotten about 1/2 way through it.

Then last night, my wife wasn’t feelin’ well and asked me to read somethin’ to her, so I had our son come in and we read together talkin’ about your book starting back at the beginning again; sharing our own experiences in business and getting feedback from him. He’s always been big into gaming, and he’s entrepreneurial as well so we have some good conversations. For the 2nd time, I’m at the 1/2 way point in your book. We’re prob gonna finish that jawn by the end of the weekend.

I’m really appreciative of you putting your time and resources into doin’ this work, I know it isn’t easy. Being people of color involved so early in the modern tech revolution, we all may not have had as many of these examples and in such an accessible way, but as long as we all continue to share knowledge and support ’em, the generations coming up behind us gonna be good.

Your goal was to influence 100k+ folks in 2016 – add us to your list.

Yourself and Anthony have been an inspiration of sorts for my wife and I. Though Sherri and I started our biz back in 2001, when we first caught wind of you two, we watched closely what y’all did at The Phat Startup; cause in tech and in biz we’re always learning. Your work motivated us, it reaffirmed more clearly why we decided to start our biz in the first place and for whom, and encouraged us to continually hustle to do shit on our terms. I think it’s a lesson even old heads need – operate your business in a way that’s true to your experiences and never forget the value of your own culture; never be ashamed of where you’ve come from or your missteps. Your successes have proven the wisdom and savvy of approaching business differently.
